Your rights as a client
Helen Parkinson is a registered tax agent. That registration comes with obligations to you, and with a way to check up on it. This page sets out both, because you are entitled to know.
Checking the registration
The Tax Practitioners Board keeps a public register of every registered tax agent and BAS agent in Australia. Anyone can search it, free, at any time. It shows whether a practitioner is registered, what they are registered for, the conditions on their registration, and any sanctions.
You do not need permission to look, and you are welcome to.

If something goes wrong
If you are unhappy with a tax agent service you have received, tell Helen first — most things are a misunderstanding and can be sorted out in a phone call on 02 9905 4997.
You do not have to, though. You can complain to the Tax Practitioners Board directly, and you can do it whether or not you have raised it with her.
How to make a complaint to the TPB
- Complaints are made in writing, through the complaint form on the TPB website.
- You will be asked what happened, when, and who was involved.
- The TPB reviews the complaint and decides whether to investigate. They may contact you for more detail.
- Investigations can lead to sanctions, which are recorded on the public register.

What Helen owes you
Registered tax agents are bound by a Code of Professional Conduct under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009. In short, she must act honestly and with integrity, act lawfully in your best interests, manage conflicts of interest, keep your information confidential unless she has your permission or the law requires otherwise, take reasonable care to get your circumstances right and apply the law correctly, and respond to you properly and in good time.
She must also tell you if something has happened that would significantly influence your decision to keep engaging her.
What we ask of you
The other side of that: give her complete and accurate information, keep the records the law requires you to keep, and tell her when something changes. She can only work with what she is given.
